Organic Farm Tour – One Day

Welcome and Introduction

Your journey begins at Ditsowou Lodge, where you will be warmly welcomed by a Bribri guide. Before setting off, you will receive a brief introduction to the importance of organic agriculture in Bribri culture and an overview of the day’s itinerary.

Traditional Canoe Journey

You will then board a traditional Bribri canoe, carved from a single tree, for a peaceful 15-minute ride along the river. As you glide through the water, your guide will share stories about daily life in the community and the deep spiritual connection between the Bribri and the natural world, especially rivers and water.

Arrival at the Organic Farm

Upon reaching the farm, your guide will explain its history, its sustainable management practices, and its cultural significance for the Bribri. You will learn how organic agriculture is deeply rooted in ancestral knowledge and adapted to the tropical ecosystem.

Guided Tour of the Plantation

During the walk through the estate, you will discover a rich diversity of crops, including tropical fruits, vegetables, and medicinal herbs. Educational stops along the way will introduce you to plants used for healing, cooking, and traditional practices.

Traditional Agricultural Techniques

Your guide will demonstrate ancestral cultivation methods, such as natural soil preparation, seed selection, crop rotation, and plant associations that enhance soil fertility and ecological balance. These techniques showcase the sustainable and respectful approach that defines Bribri agriculture.

Community Interaction

Visitors are invited to take part in small agricultural activities alongside community members, creating a meaningful moment of exchange. This is an opportunity to share knowledge, learn new techniques, and experience the collaborative spirit of Bribri rural life.

Organic Lunch

At midday, you will enjoy a delicious organic lunch prepared with fresh ingredients harvested directly from the farm. Traditional Bribri dishes are accompanied by natural drinks made from local fruits and herbs, offering an authentic gastronomic experience.

Cultural and Spiritual Significance of Agriculture

After lunch, your guide will introduce you to the Bribri view of the Earth as a sacred entity and explain how agriculture plays a central role in spiritual life. You will hear stories about rituals and ceremonies that accompany farming activities.

Interactive Workshops

Visitors may participate in hands-on agricultural tasks or take part in a small workshop to create local crafts or products using materials from the farm. These activities highlight the creativity and sustainable lifestyle of the community.

Return to the Lodge

The tour concludes with a peaceful walk along natural trails followed by a final canoe ride back to Ditsowou Lodge. This quiet journey allows time for reflection and questions. Your guide will bid you farewell, with the option to purchase organic products or local handicrafts as souvenirs.
